Tamboran Resources Corp chief executive Todd Abbott has been appointed managing director at the early-stage natural gas exploration and production company.

Abbott, who joined Tamboran in January as CEO, continues in the role alongside his new mandate effective October 19. The new appointment "formalizes his executive leadership at the board level as the company moves from the appraisal phase into development", Tamboran said in a press release.

"Mr Abbott has more than 25 years of upstream oil and gas experience spanning unconventional shale operations, strategy, infrastructure, business planning and corporate finance", Tamboran said.

Abbott had taken over from interim CEO Richard Stoneburner, who remains chair. Stoneburner assumed the role of interim CEO in the third quarter of 2025 following Joe Riddle's resignation.

Abbott previously served as former chief operating officer of Seneca Resources Co LLC, where he gained Appalachian Basin experience. Abbott was also part of Marathon Oil Corp, where he had oversight of Permian Basin, Eagle Ford and Alaskan operations, and Pioneer Natural Resources Co.

"The board is pleased to appoint Todd as managing director and chief executive officer as Tamboran advances its strategy of supplying natural gas from the Beetaloo Basin to the Northern Territory, Australia’s East Coast and Asia Pacific gas markets", Stoneburner said.

Abbott said, "The last few months have been a pivotal period for Tamboran and the Beetaloo Basin, highlighted by the achievement of first gas sales from the Beetaloo to the Northern Territory gas market. I look forward to leading Tamboran through our next phase of growth as we move from the de-risking phase into the development of this world-class asset".

Abbott had overseen the completion of Tamboran's acquisition of Beetaloo partner Falcon Oil & Gas Ltd, which consolidated Tamboran's position in the McArthur sub-basin into what it said is a leading 2.8 million net prospective acres.

Last month Tamboran said it had begun gas sales from the Shenandoah South Pilot Project, introducing Beetaloo as a supplier to Australia's Northern Territory.

"Volumes from the field are expected to ramp up to the full 40 terajoules per day (tJd) contracted to the Northern Territory government under a long-term take-or-pay agreement by early 2027", Tamboran said September 8.

"This is an important first step towards establishing the Beetaloo Basin as a reliable, long-term source of natural gas for the Northern Territory and, over time, the broader Australian East Coast market", Abbott said at the time.

The pilot project consists of five wells in the Northern Pilot Area. It has a declared nameplate capacity of 50 tJd or about 48.5 million cubic feet per day. Gas is processed through the Sturt Plateau Compression Facility, a 50:50 joint venture between Tamboran and Formentera's Daly Waters Energy LP.

Last year the Northern Territory Government (NTG) approved the sale of appraisal gas from the Pilot Project, following the agreement to buy from the project for an initial term of nine years.

"This is the first approval granted by the NTG through the new BUG [Beneficial Use of Gas] legislation and follows the recent consent from Native Title Holders for the sale of up to 60 tJ per day from the Shenandoah South Pilot Project over a three-year period", Tamboran said September 1, 2025.

Tamboran and Daly equally own the company that owns a 77.5 percent stake in Beetaloo permits EPs 76, 98 and 117, with the rest previously held by Falcon Oil & Gas Australia Ltd, now part of Tamboran.
