Norway produced 298.4 million cubic meters (over 10.5 billion cubic feet) per day of natural gas in September, its lowest monthly figure this year, according to preliminary official data.
Last month's output fell 12.6 percent from August and fell 6.7 percent short of the government forecast. It did increase 5.1 percent from September 2025, according to the data released by the Norwegian Offshore Directorate (NOD).
In August 2026 Aker BP ASA began production at three gas and condensate discoveries in the Norwegian Sea via tiebacks to the Skarv field.
Collectively known as the Skarv Satellite Project, the Alve Nord, Idun Nord and Orn fields have about 120 million barrels of oil equivalent recoverable resources, according to the Norwegian company.
"Production from the Skarv Satellites is expected to account for a significant share of Aker BP's production in the Skarv area for several years", Aker BP said August 26. "The project also strengthens the foundation for further development and resource utilization in the area".
The satellite project aims to maintain production at Skarv, which started production 2012, through 2040.
Also in August majority state-owned Equinor ASA put onstream Troll phase 3 stage 2. The project "accelerates production of 55 billion standard cubic meters of gas from the Troll West reservoir", the company said August 25. "This corresponds to nearly two years of France’s gas demand".

Last year the Nordic country remained the European Union's top source of gas with an export of 89 Bcm, according to the European Commission's fourth quarter 2025 gas market report.
In 2026 Equinor signed multi-year agreements to supply Norwegian gas to Germany and the Netherlands.
Under the latest agreement announced by Equinor, deliveries to the Dutch gas grid, on top of a five-year supply for the Netherlands agreed earlier this year, started October. Both Dutch agreements are with Rotterdam-based Eneco, which supplies electricity, gas and heating in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and the United Kingdom.
Under the earlier agreement for the supply of gas produced in the Norwegian continental shelf to the Netherlands, yearly deliveries of up to 500 million cubic meters began February.
A third agreement between Equinor and Eneco, also lasting five years, is for supply to Germany. "The agreement runs until the end of 2030 and covers annual volumes of around 2.2 terawatt‑hours (around 0.2 bcm/year), and deliveries to Germany started in April 2026", Equinor said May 19.
Separately Equinor has secured a 15-year agreement with Uniper SE to supply over 30 terawatt hours - about 2.8 billion cubic meters - a year of natural gas to Germany.
"Deliveries under the new agreement will start on 1 January 2027, the same year Norway and Equinor mark 50 years of gas exports to Germany", Equinor said August 24.
Meanwhile Norway's oil production in September 2026 fell 7.7 percent month-on-month and 8.4 percent year-on-year to 1.73 million barrels per day. The figure exceeded the NOD forecast by 0.7 percent.
"The total petroleum production so far in 2026 is about 181.7 million Sm3 [standard cubic meters] oil equivalents (MSm3 o.e.), broken down as follows: about 80.7 MSm3 o.e. of oil, about 8.7 MSm3 o.e. of NGL and condensate and about 92.2 MSm3 o.e. of gas for sale", the NOD said. "The total volume is 5.1 MSm3 o.e. more than 2025".
A strike launched mid-June by SAFE union members had threatened to cut production by about 12,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, according to industry association Offshore Norge. Work resumed mid-July after the workers and Offshore Norge agreed to the government mediator's proposal to leave their dispute to a voluntary wage tribunal.
The tribunal decided last week, finalizing new terms in the Well Service Agreement between the two parties.
